Morgan Creek Vineyards, established in 1993, enjoyed its first vintage season the fall of 1998 and the opening of Minnesota's only underground winery.
The underground earth shelter provides perfect cellar temperature for wine production and aging, and creates an inviting atmosphere for tasting room and gift shop visitors.
Owner/wine maker Georg Marti continues a long tradition of family fermenting adventures. Over 150 years ago his great-great grandfather August Schell established the August Schell Brewing Company in New Ulm Minnesota, today's second oldest family owned brewery in the U.S. Georg spent most of his early career working for his father, then president of the brewery. Following the family’s fermentation legacy, in 1999 Georg and his oldest son Adam pursued wine making studies at Purdue University Heartland Wine School, with focus on Midwest varietals and northern climate wine making techniques.
Today, Morgan Creek Vineyards specializes in growing and producing German, French, and American style wines, including Minnesota cold-hardy varietals. Morgan Creek Vineyards offers a cycle of seasonal events that celebrate the joy of living and the art of fine winemaking.
The vineyards is an agri-tourist culinary destination that promotes through education and events, mutually beneficial relationships based on regionally produced foods and wine. Morgan Creek Vineyards, Minnesota's only underground winery is proud to be a designated Minnesota Green Route Destination and a member of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture "Minnesota Grown" marketing group
