'Reviving the Eisteddfod Tradition," will be the focus of the September event in the Prairie Stories and River Rhymes program co-sponsored by the Blue Earth County Historical Society, Morgan Creek Vineyards, and the Southern Minnesota Poets Society.
The program will feature photographs, music, and poetry from the past two years of the Cambria Eisteddfod held at Morgan Creek Winery. 'Eisteddfod" is a Welsh word denoting 'chairing," referring to the custom of awarding a chair to the winner of a bardic competition. The centuries-old custom was once a frequent event among the Welsh settlers of Blue Earth County. It has been revived by the Historical Society as a state-wide competition held at the winery on the last Sunday of June.

This program is devoted to the history and continuation of the tradition not only in Blue Earth County, but in countries all over the world. The event will include photography by Jack Madsen and readings of poetry by John Calvin Rezmerski, Poet Laureate of the League of Minnesota poets, as well as readings by other poets. Among the poems to be read are the winners of previous Eisteddfod celebrations, as well as famous Welsh poems by Dylan Thomas and others.
The event will be held at Morgan Creek Vineyards on Saturday, September 27 from 2-4 p.m. Morgan Creek is located a few miles off Highway 68 between New Ulm and Mankato, and is marked by signs. Admission is free, wine, snacks, and winery tours are available.
